Pandemic pushes Gen Z, Millennials to make the switch to digital

57% of Gen Z and 68% of Millennials expect to maintain their digital habits even when the pandemic is over.

According to a report by WP Engine and The Center for Generational Kinetics, Gen Z and Millennials are more dependent on the internet compared to older generations. 48% of Gen Z and 46% of Millennials become uncomfortable with no internet access for more than four hours. The corresponding numbers for Gen X and Boomers stand at 40% and 28%, respectively.

The study found that 43% of Gen Z used the internet primarily for entertainment while members of the other generations rely on the internet for information. Similarly, 70% of Gen Z has increased consumption of video streaming and 66% of Gen X claim to rely on digital now more than before.

36% of Gen Z tried online video chatting for the first time during the pandemic, and about 37% of them had their first online class experience. 26% of Gen Z tried online gaming and 27% opted for online food delivery for the first time during last year. In other firsts, 24% shopped for groceries online and 28% used digital money transfer facilities.
