44% of women’s sports fans are 24 years old or younger

The report found that 44% of women’s sports fans are 24 or younger, while 24% of the women’s sport’s fans are aged between 25-34. Tweets celebrating women and gender equality increased over 64% in 2021 compared to 2020.

When it came to the type of sports, women’s tennis has seen its fans grow on Twitter by over 77%, followed by women’s NWHL (+72%), and WNBA (+14%). Rayssa Leal, Simone Biles, and Greysia Pollii were some of the most mentioned women athletes of the Olympics Games on Twitter.

Women’s sports fans are 9.8 times likely to tweet about reality TV, followed by sneakers and cocktails  at 9.5 and 8.3 times respectively. Other topics included parenting and documentary films.
