Named “IndexNow”, website owners can use the tool to notify search engines about new content or updates to existing content on their sites.

Developed by Microsoft Bing and search engine Yandex, the open-source indexing protocol is open to all search engines. IndexNow will begin sharing up to 10,000 URLs every day, starting November 2021.

Companies like eBay, LinkedIn and GitHub are expected to adopt IndexNow. Content management systems, content delivery networks and the SEO industry are also being encouraged to adopt the new tool.

As of now, search engines have to index web content using a search engine crawler. The crawler visits the website, requests pages and pulls data from the webserver.
