In Google search, more reliable local news sources will be displayed in the Top Stories Carousel.
As searches for "news near me" have surged globally, Google is launching new features for local search and new tools to help journalists create locally-relevant stories. The company will introduce new and improved tools for reporters to create digitally personalised content.
The Search Engine giant will label the new search features Local News Carousel, Top Stories Carousel, Deeper Knowledge Of Topics, and Local Tweets. Tools for Journalists include the census mapper project, an embeddable map that shows census data at the national, state, county level and census tracts.
Common Knowledge Project, which allows US reporters to explore data, integrate feedback, has been upgraded to include geographic comparisons, new charts, and visuals. Google will continue to invest in new technologies to help local news publishers create more engaging stories.
