Free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) services, shortened movie release periods contributed to the growth of the American video streaming market in 2021.

In Q2 2021, the average number of video services used by adults in the US and Canada are 8.8, according to TiVo’s video trends report. FAST services have become an integral part of smart TV experiences.

53% of US smart TV customers reported watching FAST channels in 2021. Moreover, 55.7 million US households currently don’t have cable, satellite, or telco television. 41% of US households aren’t traditional pay TV viewers.

Since its launch in January 2021, Discovery+'s original series with stars like Joanna has helped the streaming service boost its number of paying customers by 20 million. HBO MAX’s Q1 2021 share of SVOD subscribers was 14% in the US.
