According to Reuter’s Digital News Report this year, public trust in the news media has increased significantly.
Audiences in the UK said that their trust in the news rose to 36% from 28% in a year. In contrast, only 29% of US audiences claim to “trust most news most of the time”.
The report also found that 66% of the surveyed people want their news media to maintain a neutral stand. On the other end, 24% of the respondents believe the news media should not try to maintain neutrality when it comes to topics, such as COVID or the Climate Crisis.
About 74% of respondents said reporting should present a range of views, rather than taking a single position. Additionally, 68% of respondents aged between 18- and 35-year-olds believe news media is critical to democracy.
