Technologist Barry Schwartz conducted a Twitter poll directly focussed on link building tasks.
The Twitter poll asked, “SEOs – what percentage of your SEO work is involved with link building?”. Around 58% of respondents reported spending less than 25% of their time directly on link building activities. Only 9% of SEO professionals said over 75% of their time is focussed on link building, while 13% said they spend 50-75% of their time in link building activities.
Around 20% of respondents said 25-50% of their time is focused on link building tasks. However, the author argues the results would have been reversed if someone had conducted a similar poll two decades ago.
