Apart from Google, Meta is the other business that has lately entered the augmented reality wearables market.
With the acquisition of AR glasses firm North last year, Google may be ramping up its augmented reality ambitions. According to recent reports, the California-headquartered company is reportedly working with North to launch a new generation of smart glasses.
Before being acquired by Google, North had marketed and later discontinued the first-generation line of smart glasses called Focals. While it began previewing the second-generation Focals post Google’s acquisition, the project was later shelved too.
But given that Google has recently advertised for individuals to join its AR team along with creating an AR operating system, the company might be relying on North to launch a new line of consumer devices. Similarly, Meta has also teamed up with Ray-Ban to produce a set of smart spectacles that can shoot photographs and videos.
