The company’s original content initiative is closing down.

YouTube Originals, which included shows like “Cobra Kai”, “Step Up: High Water, and Ryan Hansen Solves Crimes on Television”, available via YouTube Premium, is coming to an end, as per the company. Cobra Kai, a Karate Kid spinoff, was a hit on the platform, but later shifted to Netflix.

In a Twitter post, YouTube’s chief business officer, Robert Kyncl, said the company will start “winding down” its original content and return to its roots of “creator-made videos.” The growth of new creators offers an opportunity to redirect resources and funds to other initiatives like the “Creator Shorts Fund” and the “Black Voices Fund”, notes Kyncl.

Further, Kyncl revealed that YouTube’s global head of original content, Susanne Daniels, will leave YouTube later this year. Daniels has been with YouTube since 2015.
