Global streaming adoption slows down, CTV loses streaming viewing share

A Conviva report has revealed that streaming adoption saw a marginal 1% growth in North America in Q4 2021. 

Globally, streaming grew at 7% in Q4 compared to the same quarter in 2020. Similarly, connected TV lost its share of streaming viewing by 2% YoY. Companies, which are well-positioned in the connected device market recorded moderate growth, while some even recorded losses.

For instance, while Roku grew at 12%, Amazon Fire TV lost its share of viewing time by 7% and Apple TV, by 1%. “The growth rate may be slowing, but the streaming industry is now well established and unlikely to ever go back to pre-pandemic levels,” says Keith Zubchevich, President and CEO, Conviva.

When it comes to social platforms, US sports content saw a 42% increase in social posts and a 23% increase in total engagements in Q4 last year, compared to Q4 2020.
