The companies are targeting mid-to late-April closing dates for the $43 billion deal.
As per Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels’ announcement at the Deutsche Bank 30th Annual Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, HBO Max and Discovery Plus will be integrated into a single streaming service. The bundling will come into effect once the Discovery and WarnerMedia deal completes.
Given the immense differences in content libraries and technological infrastructure between the two services, a rapid merging of the streaming services will be unlikely. However, subscribers of both the services can access the other streaming platform in the meantime.
As a first step, Wiedenfels suggests bundling the services and using a single sign-on method for both. The pricing for the streaming service is still unclear.
