Taxes

As the country gets closer to the tax filing date, now less than a week away, more Americans feel the pinch of taxes — those saying they pay more than their fair share of them in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll has gone up six points in the last week. And Americans think things will get worse — half believe their taxes will increase next year.

The concern about taxes increasing is particularly apparent among Republicans. Two-thirds of them expect their taxes to increase next year. Democrats think their taxes will remain about the same.

Neither party gains much of an edge on this issue: just over a third say they trust the Democrats to make the right decisions about taxes; just under a third trust the Republicans more; another third trusts the parties equally.

As for President Obama, his approval rating on handling taxes is just 30%. 58% of Americans disapprove.
