(Week of 3/10/2012) Americans continue to sympathize with Israel more than with the Palestinians in their ongoing conflict, but many aren’t sure the President agrees with them. In this Economist/YouGov Poll, more than four times as many Americans sympathize with Israel than with the Palestinians, though many aren’t sure or say they sympathize with both. At the same time, more see the President’s sympathies lying with the Palestinians than with Israel. But nearly a third of Americans aren’t sure.

GOP voters are particularly clear on this difference. 68% of them sympathize with Israel; 63% think the President sympathizes with the Palestinians.

As for the GOP candidates, most GOP voters say the candidates think the way Republican voters do: 73% say the GOP candidates sympathize more with Israel. So does 49% of the entire country.
