(Week of 8/25/2012) Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan, Republican Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential running mate, is the most sincere of the four men running for national office this year, according to the latest Economist/YouGov Poll. By nearly two-to-one, Americans believe Ryan is more likely to say what he really believes, and not what the public wants to hear.
Vice President Joe Biden also is seen as more sincere than not. However, the two men at the top of the presidential tickets are more likely to be viewed as mostly saying what the public wants to hear. About half say that about both President Obama and Romney. More think Obama can be believed than say Romney can.
Although Americans may think Ryan is sincere, that doesn’t mean they are fond of him. Despite Ryan’s recent rise to national prominence, 30% of Americans already say that they don’t like him as a person. A higher percentage of Americans (38%) have already decided that they don’t like Mitt Romney. On the other hand, 32% of Americans dislike President Obama and 30% dislike Vice President Biden.
