RESEARCH ANALYST – PALO ALTO OFFICE

Research Analyst

YouGov is seeking an energetic person with strong organizational and analytic skills for the position of Research Analyst. At YouGov, a Research Analyst is principally responsible for interpreting data, creating reports, and making recommendations based upon research findings. The Research Analyst applies qualitative and quantitative techniques to interpret data and produce substantiated recommendations. Research Analysts will occasionally conduct qualitative interviews to collect additional insight.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicating with project managers and clients to understand and document the business objectives
  • Assisting in the development and programming of survey questionnaires and testing questionnaires to ensure the necessary data is captured
  • Conducting in-depth data analyses using traditional and advanced methods
  • Making PowerPoint presentations that effectively communicate key research findings
  • Authoring reports containing actionable recommendations
  • QCing questionnaires, data analysis and reports
  • Conducting qualitative research 

Requirements:

  • Must be very detail oriented and well organized
  • Must possess problem-solving skills that use deductive reasoning and understanding
  • Strong analytic and critical thinking skills
  • Exceptional writing ability
  • Advanced expertise with Excel, specifically using vlookups, pivot tables and VBA
  • Expertise with PowerPoint
  • Experience using SPSS, SAS or R and/or LaTeX is a plus
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field from an accredited institution required

Senior Data Processing Executive, US Data Operations

YouGov is a leading online Market Research organisation with offices around the world.  We are currently recruiting for a Senior Data Processing Executive to work in our NYC office within our busy US Operations department.  You will be part of a small, friendly and sociable team which provides the research teams with the operational services they require to offer quality consultancy on a wide variety of topics.  

You will be part of the broader US Operations team, including pricing and procurement, scripting and development, and field management, which strives to produce accurate results every time and supports the rest of the company in delivering innovative and robust research solutions. The successful candidate will be provided any relevant training and support needed to carry out the role. 

Overall Objective

  • To manage the process of constructing and delivering outputs for one of YouGov’s key products: the US Omnibus.
  • To act as an expert data resource for internal clients and the US Operations department.
  • To, working with the Data Operations Director, manage the transition of data operational workflows to Python and Quantipy [a Python based open source Market Research DP tool].

Key Responsibilities

Delivering the Omnibus:

  • To act as the main point of contact and co-ordinate data analysis for US Omnibus surveys, Field & Tab surveys and external data surveys.
  • To have an excellent working relationship with the US Omnibus research team to better understand their data requirements.
  • Look at ways to optimise the US Omnibus workflow through the use of Quantipy; moving away from the current SPSS/IBM Dimensions Base Professional workflow.

Data processing expert within the US Operations team:

  • Technical skills:
    • To provide expertise on all aspects of survey data, data operations processes, and data analysis requirements
    • To possess an excellent understanding and level of proficiency in role specific software including; Python, Quantipy and Dimensions tabulation packages, sample management systems, survey scripting, coding ascribe, SPSS.
  • Using and excelling within prescribed DP toolsets:
    • Data cleaning, validating and tabulation.
    • Running bespoke project analyses for consulting groups.
    • Managing data preparation and tabulation on long running tracker projects.
    • Using experience to liaise with internal clients, advising on best practice and assisting with problem solving.
  • Data analysis:
    • To advise the rest of the business on best practice in all elements of data analysis, including weighting.
    • To display a very good level of understanding of the weighting process.
  • Mentoring:
    • To provide support/training to any more junior members of the department. 

Support the Data Operations Director in homogenizing data operational workflows across YouGov’s US offices:

  • Assist in evaluating the current US toolset and workflow:
    • Examine how Python/Quantipy could be used to process survey data for tabulation.
    • Help determine what supporting tools and utilities would be needed to support the US workflow.
  • Reconcile decipher data with the Quantipy workflow.
    • Transfer custom research projects from current offline workflow to YouGov’s Quantipy workflow.
  • Technical skills:
    • Acquire an understanding and level of proficiency in Python with specific leaning towards Python Pandas and the YouGov Quantipy library. 

Education and qualifications

Essential:

  • 3+ years’ experience in data processing/analysis/tabulation related role.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced working environment with tight turnaround deadlines.

Preferred:

  • Degree/HND in mathematics, a data or computer science based subject.
  • Dimensions Base Professional (DMOM, TOM): advanced knowledge.
  • Base Professional (IOM): intermediate knowledge.
  • Python: intermediate knowledge.
  • SPSS: intermediate knowledge.
  • Excel: intermediate knowledge.

Senior Analyst / R Programmer

YouGov is seeking a technically sophisticated person for its Operations Group, based in Palo Alto. We are looking for someone who can combine programming experience in R and Python with organizational and data management skills. Work in a fast-paced and intellectually stimulating environment where innovative solutions to marketing, financial, and political problems are developed.

Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical implementation, design, and execution of internal and external research projects. The analyst will assist and provide advice to the operations and research groups, as well as having primary responsibility for specific projects.

The successful candidate will use their skills to develop data processing systems and data pipelines, support internal and external clients in their data analysis projects, and contribute to the existing R and Python codebase. You will join a team that has used R, Python, Mercurial/Git, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, Hive, RabbitMQ, and related tools to provide clients with custom data solutions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience in advanced R programming and development.
  • Knowledge of applied data analysis or statistical modeling.
  • Programming ability in Python, Perl, or another scripting language.
  • Experience using SQL databases.
  • Development and system tools (version control systems, regular expressions, unix shell tools).
  • Master's degree or PhD with a background in statistics, computer science, or social science. Outstanding candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree will also be considered.

  • Experience in developing and maintaining R packages or R/Shiny applications.
