In the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, 45% support stricter laws on the sale of handguns. But there is a partisan and a gender gap. Two-thirds of Democrats would make handgun laws stricter; just 22% of Republicans would.
In general, do you feel the laws covering the sale of handguns should be...
Party | Gender | |||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
More strict | 45% | 64% | 22% | 43% | 40% | 49% |
Kept as they are | 34% | 25% | 48% | 39% | 36% | 33% |
Less strict | 13% | 4% | 24% | 14% | 17% | 9% |
Not sure | 8% | 7% | 7% | 4% | 8% | 9% |
Men and women have different opinions on this, too. Half of women would make gun laws stricter; 40% of men would. Twice as many men as women would make them less strict.
