57% of Americans say they like glitter on their holiday decorations
From greeting cards to tree ornaments, glitter is everywhere during the holidays. Around this time of year, glitter adorns many Christmas decorations but does its sparkle still shine as bright with Americans nearly 80 years after it became an industry? YouGov Omnibus surveyed adults of all ages and ideologies to find that Americans still very much like glitter on their holiday decorations and none more so than younger millennials.
Over half of Americans (57%) say that they either like or love glitter on holiday decorations. The tiny flakes of reflective plastic can bedazzle, but they also have a tendency to get everywhere. That may be why nearly three in ten Americans (29%) say that they dislike or even hate glitter on their holiday cheer.
Women (69%) are more likely than men (49%) to say that they like glitter on decorations. While glitter is popular among both sexes, a third of men (34%) and a quarter of women (25%) are averse to glitter on their holiday decorations.
Glitter is a favorite across all age groups, and younger millennials (61%) are the most likely to favor glitter. But most Americans over 55 (57%) also say they’re partial to glitter around the holidays. It would seem that the human fascination for all things shiny and sparkling guarantees glitter will endure for years to come.
