During the 2008 campaign, many Americans believed the news media was harder on Mrs. Clinton than they were on other candidates. But Americans view media coverage of the Secretary of State as generally fair: just 17% say the news media has been harder on her than on other political figures – even more, 29%, think the media has been easier on her.

In 2008, there also were complaints about how the media treated Sarah Palin, the Republican Vice Presidential nominee. Today, Americans view Palin negatively – 39% have a favorable view of her, while 52% are unfavorable. And when it comes to the Democratic Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, opinions look even worse: just 29% are favorable, while 54% are not. Republicans generally like Palin, and Democrats like Pelosi, but 16% of Republicans have unfavorable views of the former Alaska Governor, while 23% of Democrats dislike Pelosi.

First Lady Michelle Obama remains popular – more popular than her husband, in fact. By 52% to 39%, opinion of Michelle Obama is favorable; Americans are divided on her husband: 46% are favorable, while 48% are not.
