Despite November's elections and the change in party strength in Congress - or perhaps because of it - Americans still see gridlock ahead. They hold negative opinion of both the Democratic and Republican Parties, and they believe both parties spend more time simply opposing the other than in offering constructive policy alternatives.

Republicans receive an even more negative evaluation than Democrats do in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, and majorities see Republicans as mostly just opposing both the Democrats and President Obama. When it comes to the public's overall assessment, 54% have an unfavorable view of the GOP, and only 33% are favorable.

Congress's approval rating is only 9%. 70% disapprove. While this is an extremely low rating, Americans have criticized this Congress almost from the start.
