Only 13% of Republicans drew the same conclusion
The West Hollywood City Council has approved a resolution seeking to remove Donald Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star has been vandalized several times over the last couple of years, including a recent event where it was destroyed with a pickaxe.
Close to half (45%) of Americans say that the star should be removed, according to new data from YouGov. But nearly four in ten (37%) say that it should not.
Democrats (71%) are more than five times as likely as Republicans (13%) to say that the star should be removed. Nearly eight in ten (77%) Republicans say it should not be removed. Politically independent respondents had a more even split, with slightly more saying it should not (42%) be removed, vs. 37% who say it should.
Men (42%) are more likely than women (32%) to say that the star should not be removed. Nearly half (48%) of women say that the star should be taken out, while 20% are not sure.
The West Hollywood City Council’s resolution calls on the City of Los Angeles and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove Trump’s star from the Walk of Fame. The city of Los Angeles manages the public sidewalk, while the Chamber of Commerce decides who receives a star. So although the resolution passed the city council, the star would not be removed without action from the other two organizations.
