More than half of Americans (58%) support establishing term limits for the Supreme Court, while only 21% oppose doing so. This includes nearly three in four Democrats (72%) and more than half of Republicans (54%). Fewer Americans – 40% – support expanding the number of seats on the Supreme Court. While most Democrats support expanding the Court (64%), only 27% of Republicans do. Opinions on abolishing the Senate filibuster are similarly polarized: 40% of Americans support this measure, including 60% of Democrats and 28% of Republicans. (Anything that would result in more Supreme Court Justices being appointed by the president, and easing barriers for appointment in the Senate, would currently benefit the Democratic Party, which controls the White House and Senate.)

Methodology: This Daily Agenda survey was conducted by YouGov using a nationally representative sample of 6,868 U.S. adults interviewed online on May 3 - 4, 2022. The samples were weighted to be representative of the U.S. population, based on gender, age, race, education, U.S. census region, and political party.
