ASA has barred 10 e-cigarette ads that were posted on Instagram

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned 10 e-cigarettes ads that appeared on Instagram. Work by British American Tobacco, Global Vaping Group, Attitude Vapes and Ama Vape has been discontinued for breaching rules that prohibit nicotine-containing e-cigarettes from being advertised on Instagram.

ASA received complaints from pressure groups like Action on Smoking and Health, STOP and more, regarding Instagram posts from Vape, brand owned by BAT. The ads were discovered to be “promotional in nature” and not permitted to be put on public Instagram.

ASA also found a 24-year-old model who looked young for her age in one of the ad, holding an e-cigarette. As per the rules, models must not appear to be below 25 years. BAT removed the ad after learning of her age.
