Home/mobile entertainment across the globe grew 14% year-on-year to $58.8 billion.
This piece states that the global revenue for the entertainment industry reached a record $101 billion in 2019, according to The Motion Picture Association (MPA). The MPA counts major studios and Netflix among its members.
While box office revenue across the globe increased to $42.2 billion, US and Canada contributed $11.4 billion of the total revenue. The home/mobile entertainment in the US market increased by 8% year-on-year to $25.2 billion. 55% of adults reported watching movies or TV shows on their mobile devices.
The report further states subscription of online video services around the world increased to 863.9 million, of which 237.2 million are from the US. However, the coronavirus pandemic threatens the entertainment industry’s income as cinemas across European countries like Italy have been forced to close.
