Searches for fast food restaurants decreased by 20%, and dropped by 1.5% (from December to January).

With January coming to an end, Google has shared trending search trends for Google Maps, that can help local marketers enhance marketing efforts. A search surge for places like gyms, healthy restaurants, winter vacations, and forms of self-improvement was observed as people followed their New Year’s resolution.

Search term “healthy” surged 46% and local gyms were searched 25% more from December to January.

However, rather than searching for the nearest gym, people searched for at-home workouts. When it came to travelling, people searched for local travel more due to pandemic concerns, as local bed and breakfast searches grew 20%. Ice cream shop searches increased by 10% compared to December 2020.
