The in-app subscription will be rolled out next week.
In a recent email to podcasters, Apple Podcast announced the worldwide launch of in-app subscriptions starting 15 June. With the in-app subscription, listeners can subscribe to certain shows or networks for early access, ad-free content, and more.
While in-app subscriptions were announced in April, with a May launch date, Apple pushed it out to June, likely because of the recent backend update. Podcasters complained that Apple’s latest update delayed episodes, broke analytics, and more, which hopefully gets fixed in this rollout, as per Podnews.
However, Apple hopes to attract more premium listeners to various services like Luminary and Wondery Plus via in-app subscriptions. Further, Spotify also launched its own podcasts subscriptions since Apple announced in-app podcast subscriptions.
