eMarketer has released a revised US ecommerce forecast report following a “strong Q1 fuelled by government stimulus”.

Earlier in January 2021, eMarketer predicted the US ecommerce sales would increase by 13.7% this year. But, a revised forecast expects the US ecommerce sales would increase by 17.9% in 2021 to reach $933.30 billion.

Ecommerce would also account for 15.3% of total US retail sales, up from 14% last year. By 2024, ecommerce would be 20% of all retail sales in the country. Total retail sales are also expected to surpass $6 trillion for the first time, with sales increasing by 7.9% this year to $6.083 trillion.

Apparel and accessories, along with home furnishing, are the two fastest-growing categories. Sectors like food and beverages and consumer electronics are expected to see flatter growth. Another trend that is expected to grow significantly is “Buy Now, Pay Later”.
