Reboot Foundation’s recent survey found that 40% of social media users will not give up social media accounts over cars, TVs, or pets, in exchange for monetary rewards.
Despite social media users reporting that social media adds to their mental health symptoms, 70% of users will not give up social accounts for less than $10,000. 20% social media users would delete their social in exchange for atleast $1 million.
50% report conditions like anxiety, depression, difficulty concentrating, loneliness or low self-esteem being “somewhat” amplified by social media. Of those polled, 20% said these conditions are “very” or “extremely” intensified by social media.
Critical thinking ranked “extremely” or “very important” among 95% of respondents. Helen Lee Bouygues, Reboot’s founder and president, says, “Users recognise the deleterious effects social media has on their mental health, they’re unwilling—or unable—to limit their use of these platforms”.
