74% of journalists want hybrid newsroom schedules, according to FTI Consulting’s survey of media professionals.

Nearly 65% of journalists claim that covering and reporting has gotten more challenging amid COVID-19, as per the report. The value of in-person sourcing, reporting, editing, and newsroom atmosphere shot up ever since the COVID-19 outbreak.

The inability to meet sources in person and the lack of in-person contact with colleagues is a barrier for 85% and 77% of journalists respectively. Only 16% of journalists anticipate being back in the newsroom daily. 43% expect to work in-person two or three days a week.

Journalists will balance hybrid work, remote work, and their need to interact in-person, notes Dan Margolis, FTI. While 72% of journalists state the public's trust in the media has decreased since COVID-19, 97% say their position in the media is now more crucial than ever.
