The company has updated its ad policy to encourage more body-positive behaviour from advertisers.

Pinterest’s updated ad policy will prohibit adverts from using weight-loss language or imagery, testimonials regarding weight loss or weight-loss products, and language or imagery that idealises or denigrates certain body types. Under the new policy, advertisers will not be allowed to refer to Body Mass Index (BMI) or similar indexes.

Advertisement of products claiming weight loss through something worn or applied to the skin will also not be allowed on Pinterest. These new guidelines also forbid ads for weight loss or appetite suppressant pills and other such material.

Pinterest has also banned imagery or language that discredits certain body types or appearance. Pinterest’s Sarah Bromma said, “As Pinterest and our Pinner base continues to grow, we remain focused on maintaining a safe, positive, inspiring and relevant Pinner experience.”
