TikTok is selling its AI tech to clients

Available under a new division, BytePlus, the technology’s features  include automated speech and text translation, real-time video effects, and data analysis tools.

According to the Financial Times, ByteDance, the Beijing-based parent firm of video-sharing app TikTok, has begun selling TikTok's AI to other companies. The recommendation algorithm determines what videos to serve based on user interactions such as likes, comments, and more, and it is what made TikTok immensely popular.

BytePlus will provide clients access to the recommendation algorithm, allowing them to customise it for their apps and users. Clients of BytePlus include Goat, a US fashion app, WeGo, an Indonesian travel site, Chillibeli, and GamesApp, an Indian social gaming platform.

TikTok exceeded 100 million users in the US, despite executive orders from former President Trump in 2020. The US passed an executive order in June 2021 to rescinding bans on China-based apps.
