42% of Aussies use voice assistants

The Smart Audio Report, by Edison Research and Commercial Radio Australia, surveyed 5,000 Australian adults.

The report found that 26% of Australians (5.6%) currently own a smart speaker, 67% using it daily and 88% using it weekly. Further, 24% of smart speaker owners have three or more smart speakers in their homes, and more than six out of 10 plan to purchase another device in the future.

The most preferred speaker placement location among 55% of Aussies is in the family or living room. 65% of smart speaker owners use it to listen to music, followed by asking for the weather (56%), asking general questions (53%) and asking about the news (41%).

In addition, seven out of 10 say smart speakers make their life easier. Also, one in every two Australians used a voice assistant device like Google Assistant to communicate with a brand.
