Search ad spends grew in Q2 2021

Merkle’s recent Q2 2021 study on search trends revealed that clicks grew 52% YoY in the high tech/B2B industry.

Platforms like Google, Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram experienced significant YoY growth in Q2 2021 in ad investments, with sectors like B2B and travel re-investing in digital media. While the B2B sector experienced 15.7% YoY growth, travel sites saw a 140% increase in site visits and an 84% YoY surge in clicks.

The recent Amazon Prime Day saw 4.3 times the daily average increase in search sales and, advertisers running deals saw 5.2 times more sales than the daily average. For Google, spend saw a 8.7% YoY growth despite click growth going down 19%.

Google Shopping ad investments surged 15% YoY, while organic search visits decreased 9.7% YoY. Ad spending on Facebook grew over 68% YoY, followed by Pinterest at 26%.
