A hand-written thank you note can be a great source of word-of-mouth publicity.

Sending out hand-written thank-you letters is a tactic that not only lets brands express gratitude but also lets them develop a personal relationship with their customers. To set the tone of the relationship, send out the first letter as a follow-up to a customer’s first purchase.

Personalising the letters is a must, and so is making clear the intent of sending out the letter. Brands must be specific when thanking their customers rather than writing off of a generic templated content.

Expressing the company’s interest in having a customer return to them in the future is recommended. Where possible, the letter should be signed off as a person rather than as a company.
