This would be the first time that the streaming service is offering a free tier, according to a Netflix spokesperson.
In Kenya, Netflix is introducing a new free Android mobile subscription plan that allows users to watch a limited number of titles from its catalogue, including whole seasons of selected series. The new ad-free Netflix mobile plan for Android in Kenya was announced at the beginning of this week.
Users must be at least 18 years old and provide an email address to sign up for the plan. The free plan will grant users access to nearly a quarter of Netflix's library.
After using the service, Netflix hopes that users would upgrade to one of its paid membership plans. Netflix has tested free-to-stream content previously, by posting some its content on YouTube to entice subscribers.
