SEO consultant Aleyda Solis conducted a poll on Twitter asking if SEO professionals have experienced an "unexpected" Google search ranking drop and why.
When SEO professionals were asked whether they have ever experienced an "unexpected" drop in Google search rankings, 82% said yes, and only 18% said no. The numbers indicate that most SEOs professionals have experienced such a drop, and most of them said it was due to a Google search algorithm update.
In the second poll, Aleyda Solis asked, "What has been the main reason for most of the rankings/traffic drop cases you've experienced?" Around 71.2% of respondents said it was due to a Google search update, while 14.7% said it was related to an implementation error, 3.3% said it was related to manual action, and 10.9% said something else.
