33% of US adults rely on Facebook to get their news

Despite the recent barrage of headlines about the societal harm social media platforms may have on the world, users continue to rely on them for news.

According to Pew Research Center data, about 46% of US adults rely on social media to get news, at least sometimes. The number is a slight step down from 2020 figures.

19% of the respondents often take to social media for news. 66% of US audiences regularly use Facebook, and 33% of users regularly visit the platform to get news.

When it comes to YouTube, 72% of US adults use the site regularly, and 22% of the respondents get their news from the platform.
