The new name is a "closely guarded" secret, but it could be tied to Horizon, Facebook's unreleased VR version of Roblox.

Facebook's aim of becoming known for more than social media will be realised shortly, as the firm plans to change its name to reflect its focus on the metaverse. The name change will be discussed by Mark Zuckerberg during the annual Connect conference on 28 October 2021, but it could be announced earlier.

The rebranding will present Facebook as one of the many products managed by the company. Facebook has over 10,000 people working on hardware like AR glasses, which Zuckerberg predicts could become common as smartphones.

A rebranding could also help the corporation distance itself from the recent controversies. Facebook recently announced plans to hire 10,000 more employees to work on the metaverse in Europe.
