Consumers are adopting online shopping trends like Spear shopping, Net shopping, and Trawler shopping since the onset of COVID-19.

The pandemic drove many UK consumers to shop online. This has resulted in new shopping trends cropping up. Spear shopping involves a tendency to evaluate retailers, including niche and specialist stores.

49% Britons say they conduct more research before buying anything, as per Saatchi & Saatchi. In addition, net shopping consumers are reordering, bulking, batching, and repeating buying online, as two-fifths of Britons are more likely to reorder repeat purchases.

With trawler shopping, people buy impulsively while scrolling through sites and social media feeds as more people are willing to buy products they discover online. Brands should update website speciality sections, have fewer online touchpoints to appeal to net shoppers, and enhance ecommerce capabilities to accommodate these new shopping behaviours.
