US total home entertainment spending grew $36.5 billion in Q4 2021

The share of home entertainment spending of sales and rentals grew just by 33% in Q4 2021.

The total home entertainment spending in the US is projected to have grown $36.5 billion in Q4 2021, as per nScreenMedia estimates. Of this, $23.5 billion was spent on big TV bundle providers, in the same period.

However, consumer spending on SVOD grew by 20% from 2020 to $25.3 billion in 2021. However, in 2020, revenue growth was at a 36% rate, according to Digital Entertainment Group (DEG). The number of households having any of the top three SVOD services was 78% in 2021, same as 2020.

The number of households with more than one of the top three SVOD services grew 58%. Also, electronic sell-through of movies and TV shows declined 19%. Disc sales and disc rentals dropped by 20% and 19% respectively in 2021.
