The platform will also add monetisation features for YouTube Shorts and an ecommerce function for YouTube videos.
In a recent blog post, YouTube's chief product officer, Neal Mohan, announced that the platform will introduce new tools to help creators make more money from their content. This includes tools that allow YouTubers to sell their content as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
NFT tools, according to Mohan, could be a “compelling prospect for creators and their audiences.” Other social media networks, including Twitter and Meta, are also considering bringing NFTs to their respective platforms.
Several of the early viral video creators on YouTube have already sold their original videos as NFTs. Content creator, Cara Cunningham, sold their famous "Leave Britney Alone" video as an NFT for nearly $41,000 in April 2021.
