The Data Act proposes to build common data spaces in nine sectors, including health, mobility, energy, public administration, and agriculture.
The European Commission recently published a proposal for the regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on rules for fair access to and use of data. The proposal looks to give European institutions and member states a common set of rules for using and reusing non-personal data from industrial equipment and the internet of things.
This new strategy will focus on building common data spaces that will be as valuable to both small players and Europe’s manufacturing giants. These data spaces will include health, industrial and manufacturing, agriculture, and finance.
According to the Commission, the value of data economy to the Union’s member states will reach €829 billion by 2025. Additionally, the Commission aims to help organisations, both small and large, build the skills, confidence and legal safeguards required to monetise machine data.
