The number of Brits wanting to start their own business has grown 36% from 2020

Novuna Business Cash Flow conducted a study of UK self-employment trends.

The report suggests that over the past two years, the number of Britons thinking about starting their own business has grown by 36%. In January 2022, monthly searches for ‘how to start a business’ were 45,000. This number was 33,000 in March 2020.

Queries regarding registering a new business have jumped 41%, going from 17,000 to 24,000 searches a month, in a two year time period. There has been a 10% increase in searches regarding the process to secure a business loan.

The study also identified the “hotspots” of self-employed people based on LinkedIn data. At 7.84%, the South West city of Bath currently has the highest percentage of self-employed Britons. Brighton and Hove follow closely at 7.73%.
