The ByteDance-owned short-form video platform is launching this program – Live Subscription – in beta on 26 May.
TikTok’s Live Subscription program will enable viewers to take out paid subscriptions for specific live streamers of their choice. After subscribing to this program, viewers will have access to features like subscriber-only chat, creator-specific emotes and badges that differentiate them from non-subscribers.
TikTok’s latest monetisation program is similar to Twitch’s subscription program, which starts at $4.99 a month. However, unlike Twitch – where users need to be an affiliate or a partner to get subscribers on the platform – TikTok’s program is open to more creators.
The platform - which is wildly popular among teens - will limit the subscriptions only to users who are 18 years or older. Though the program is currently invite-only, creators should have at least 1000 followers before they can offer paid subscriptions on TikTok.
