The video platform aims to curb plagiarism and re-uploads by marking content more effectively.
YouTube is set to launch channel handles for its content creators, similar to social media platforms like TikTok and Twitter. The video hosting platform aims to help consolidate established creator brands as well as help new channels grow.
This new feature will enable channels to create a unique handle that can be tagged in videos, comments, and collaborations. These handles will help users identify original content sources and simultaneously help the channel strengthen its brand.
The platform said existing creators could choose their channel handles within a four-week window. The system will assign a handle based on pre-existing identifiers for those who do not choose a handle in the stipulated time. The process will start with accounts with larger footprints to prevent server crashes due to excessive traffic processing requests.
