Even if both collaborators share similar audiences, there is a good chance these posts will reach new followers as well.

Brands that are looking to extend their reach and engagement on Instagram, now have ‘Instagram Collabs’, which allows content creators to co-author a feed post or reel. Currently, Instagram has not extended this feature to Lives or Stories.
One of the more prominent benefits for brands is the ability to increase reach and surface on feeds through accounts people already follow. And this increased reach and discoverability can lead to a boost in engagement for both collaborating accounts.
Additionally, businesses can also increase their follower count with collaborations, as people are more likely to follow accounts that are associated with another account they already follow and trust. However, Collab posts can only have a total of two accounts per post.
