People living in College Station, Texas and Lockeford California have access to Amazon’s drone delivery service.

According to Amazon filings, drone deliveries are available within 3.37 miles of its Texas-based Prime Air Drone Delivery Centers (PADDCs). Similarly, customers within four miles of its California-based center, will also have access.

The College Station and Lockeford PADDCs will be operational during daylight hours for five days a week. Each center will also have the capacity to carry out approximately 50 maximum flight deliveries per day. Once customers place the order, they will receive tracking information and estimated delivery times before drones drop off packages.

Amazon’s current MK27-2 drone model is being used to autonomously carry out deliveries, with human oversight. Parallelly, a newer, safer MK30 model is being developed for future use in 2024.
