(Week of 7/20/2013) Last week’s announcement of the 2013 television Emmy nominations was notable for the inclusion of one nominee for best drama, House of Cards, which was never shown on broadcast or cable television, but instead was streamed and was available on DVD by Netflix. There were no nominees from broadcast television at all. Most Americans in the latest Economist/YouGov Poll admitted they have never seen any of the six nominated dramas.
Young adults are more likely to have watched the nominated programs; conservatives watched least. House of Cards is the least-watched nominated drama, but less than one in five adults have seen even the most popular drama nominee.
The comedy nominees, which include three broadcast network shows, fare better. Just over a third of the public claim to have watched none of them.
And nearly half the public has seen the most-watched of those shows, The Big Bang Theory.
