Asked if they could do a better job than their boss, 60 percent of men and 49 percent of women thought that they would be able to step up to the plate and improve on their boss.

Confidence rises with age but doesn’t change with education levels. College graduatees and non-graduates both responded at 54 percent. 56 percent of over 55 year olds thought they would do better than their boss compared with 50 percent of the 16-34 year olds.

Men have much less confidence in their looks than their work leadership abilities. Only 27 percent of men compared with 40 percent of women thought they were more attractive than their spouse or partner.

Married responders were more likely to think their partners more attractive than they were:

- 32 percent of married responders thought that they were more attractive than their partners
- 41 percent of the unmarried thought themselves more attractive than their partners
