(Week of 11/10/2012) In the week after the election, relatively few Romney supporters say they are hoping for compromise with the President from the GOP-controlled House of Representatives. In the latest Economist/YouGov Poll, nearly two out of three Romney supporters say they would rather have a member of Congress who stands up for his or her principles no matter what, rather than one who is willing to compromise to get something done.
On the other hand, 87% of the President’s supporters want compromise and action.
The Romney voters don’t like the President, and don’t think he has done a good job. In fact, 78% say he has been worse than they expected. 69% say that he has been much worse.
The President’s supporters express much less extreme views. 48% say he has been better than they expected, but only a slightly lower percentage say he has simply met their expectations.
Overall, the election may have given the President a (very) small bump in overall approval. Among the entire public, 48% now approve of the way he is doing his job as President, 47% disapprove. That is among the highest ratings he has held in the last two years.
