Independents showing Republican support
One of the story lines of this election has been the support among Independents for the Re- publican candidates and Nevada is no exception. Republican Sharron Angle leads Democrat Harry Reid by 19 percentage points among likely voters who identify as Independent. In a traditionally strong Democrat voting group, minorities, Harry Reid shows a lack of ability to consolidate this group as Republican Sharron Angle is receiving a strong 21 percent sup- port from them. Republican Gubernatorial candidate Brian Sandoval leads Democrat Rory Reid by 30 percentage points among Independents and receives 28 percent support among minorities.
Methodology
Interviews with 1000 registered voters, including 711 likely voters, were conducted October 25-30, 2010, online using YouGov’s PollingPoint panel. YouGov uses a matched sample methodology that selects respondents to match the Nevada registered voter population in terms of demographics (age, race, gender, education, employment status, income, marital status, children), past voting behavior, and political attitudes (interest in politics, party registration, and ideology).
